Security and development
From 07th of December 2005 to 08th of December 2005

During last September World Summit, support for the Millennium Development Goals and priority for the African region were reiterated. The international community also announced a substantial increase of official development assistance. As 2005 will end with the WTO development round ministerial conference in Hong Kong, the time is right to engage decision makers, think tanks and academics in open discussions on bilateral foreign aid issues. While European countries are getting ready to adopt a declaration on development policy for the European Union, it seems useful for decision makers to share views on key development issues. This workshop aims at facilitating this process.

Three issues will be discussed:
 - the changing nature of the international context;
 - the balance between security and development issues;
 - the strengthening of institutions in fragile states.
