Background

IDDRI was created in 2001 for a duration of two years, as a groupement d'intérêt scientifique, GIS (scientific interest group), bringing together six ministries and six public research organizations. The aim of the GIS was to launch the first initiatives and mobilize companies.

The GIS was replaced by an association loi de 1901 (French law 1901 association), which was created in order to accommodate non-public actors, especially companies. The new statutes were adopted during the inaugural general meeting of 22 April 2003.
