Laurence Tubiana appointed Special Representative for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference

In 2015, France will host and chair the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21). Today, Laurence Tubiana was appointed Special Representative of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Laurent Fabius, for this conference.
Laurence Tubiana will provide extensive expertise and vision to the negotiation team in preparing for Paris Climat 2015. Her work will focus on mobilizing the full range of stakeholders to promote a “positive agenda” to underline how the fight against climate change is not only crucial but of potential major benefits in terms of growth, employment and quality of life.
“I am honoured by this appointment, given the contribution that Paris Climat 2015 can make” states Laurence Tubiana. This initiative will benefit from her firm commitment and extensive experience in international negotiations over many years, notably as Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI).
Founder of IDDRI, Laurence Tubiana is Professor and Director of the Sustainable Development Centre at Sciences Po Paris. She is also Professor of international affairs at SIPA, the School of International and Public Affairs at the University of Columbia in New York. Since September 2012, she has co-chaired the UN Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). She also chairs the Board of Governors of the French Development Agency (AFD). In 2012, she was appointed by the French government to the National Steering Committee on Energy Transition to facilitate the discussion on France's energy and provide recommendations on the definition of long-term pathways for the French energy system. From 1997 to 2002, Laurence Tubiana was Project Leader on global environmental issues and Environmental Advisor to the Prime Minister Lionel Jospin. Previously, she was Director of Research at the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA) and the representative of European NGOs to the World Bank. She also chaired the French NGO Solagral. Laurence Tubiana is a graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, a Doctor of Economics and Inspector General of Agriculture.
