Alexandre Magnan is a research fellow at IDDRI, specialized in vulnerability and adaptation to climate and environmental change.

Since 2003, he has been developing research on coastal areas and small islands especially in the Indian Ocean (e.g., Reunion Island, Maldives, Mauritius) and in the Pacific (Kiribati, Japan, French Polynesia), and more recently also in Bangladesh and in Japan.

He is currently leading two major projects on the assessment of adaptive capacity to climate change (CapAdapt) and on the assessment of "trajectories of vulnerability" to climate change (VulneraRe, http://trajectoire-vulnerabilite.org). He recently co-organised two workshops on maladaptation to climate change (Bellagio Center of the Rockefeller Foundation, Italy, November 2012) and on trajectories of vulnerability (France, October 2013, http://www.iddri.org/Evenements/Conferences/Back-to-the-Future-From-trajectories-of-vulnerability-to-adaptation-to-climate-change).
