Alexandre Magnan is a research fellow at IDDRI, specialized in vulnerability and adaptation to climate and environmental change.

Since 2003, he has been developing research on coastal areas and small islands especially in the Indian Ocean (e.g., Reunion Island, Maldives, Mauritius) and in the Pacific (Kiribati, Japan, French Polynesia), and more recently also in Bangladesh and in Japan.

He also led works in Bangladesh , Japan and France . He is particularly interested in the analysis of "vulnerability trajectories", characterization of influencing factors and their interactions through the long time and maladaptation (typology, evaluation , case study).

He is coordinating and co- ordinating research projects  CapAdapt , VulneraRe , Ocean Initiative 2015 , Réomers and Storisk.
He has organized many national and international scientific workshops 

Alexandre Magnan has published several works (Ces îles qui pourraient disparaître, Des catastrophes... "naturelles" ? Changement climatique : tous vulnérables ? ) as well as scientific papers.
