Benoit Lefèvre is a researcher at IDDRI since January 2009, in charge of developing research and think tank activities regarding urban issues. His personal researches focus on urban transport – land use interactions and urban spatial structures, urban energy systems and policies, cities’ participation in carbon markets and post-Kyoto negotiations, and prospective simulation.

He received his PhD degree in Economics from École des Mines de Paris (Paristech -ENSMP). He carried out his post-doctorate in the Centre for Energy, SIPA, Columbia University (New York). In 2009 he was visiting scholar at Institute of Urban and Regional Developemnt (University of California at Berkeley).

He teaches in the Master of International Affairs at Sciences Po Paris, and in the Master AMUR at École Nationale des Ponts (ParisTech - ENPC).

He has also carried out research contracts funded by the French National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), Veolia Transport, the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development (MEDD), and the World Bank, and provided research support on urban transportation and energy efficiency issues to the French Development Agency (AFD), the French Agency for the Environment and Energy Management (ADEME), and a consulting agency in Bangalore, India (SCE-CREOCEAN). Benoit Lefèvre has published chapters of books and articles in Energy Policy, Ciudad y Territorio, Revue d’économie financière, Urbanisme, Transport urbains, Annales de la recherche urbaine, and Libération.

In June 2010, Benoit Lefèvre was selected as Lead Author (LA) in the Working Group III Contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of Climate Change; Benoit will be working on Chapter 16: Cross-cutting Investment and Finance Issues.
