Specialised in coastal law, integrated coastal zone management and law of the sea, Julien Rochette is research fellow Oceans and coastal zones at IDDRI since 2007.
His current fields of activities deal with the regulation of offshore oil exploitation, the governance of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdictions and the implementation of the integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) in the Mediterranean and the Western Indian Ocean, where he is participating in the elaboration of an ICZM Protocol and in the discussion regarding strengthening its institutional framework: the Nairobi Convention.
From September 2011 to March 2012, Julien Rochette was visiting fellow at the Institute of Marine and Environmental Law, University of Cape Town, South Africa, where he developed a specific work programme on marine and coastal governance in the Western Indian Ocean region.
A doctor in public law (University of Nantes, France) and in international law (University of Milan, Italy), Julien Rochette is a member of the Marine and Coastal Specialist Group of the IUCN French Committee and of the scientific council of the Sustainable Coastal Management Research Programme (LITEAU - French Ministry of Environment). Julien is also regular lecturer in various French universities (Nantes, La Rochelle, Paris V).
