Former director, UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan
Lucien Chabason is a Senior advisor at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations, and President of Plan Bleu for the Mediterranean.
An expert on the OECD and UNEP, he was formerly in charge of sustainable development policy education at the Paris Institute of Political Sciences (2004/2009) and Vice-President of the Commission of Accounts, the Economy and the Environment, and is a member of the science councils of the French Global Environment Facility and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
He was coordinator of the United Nations Action Plan for the Mediterranean (based in Athens) from 1994 to 2003. He led the cabinet of the Minister for the Environment, Brice Lalonde, then prepared the National environment plan between 1988 and 1992.
He was advisor to the Prime Minister on environmental issues between 1976 and 1978, responsible for matters of spatial planning, sites and landscapes at the Ministry of the Environment (1978-1984), then Director of the research department at the Ministry of the Environment (1984-1988).
He studied law, sociology and political sciences before attending the ENA (French National School of Administration) in 1968.
He joined IDDRI in 2005.
