Reiko Hasegawa is a Research Fellow for the DEVAST project (2011-2013) at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI). After completing a Master’s degree (M.A.) in International Affairs in Canada, Reiko specialized in Conflict Analysis, worked for a humanitarian NGO as Field Coordinator and Country Representative in Iraq, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. In 2003, she joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), assigned as Associate Programme Officer in Slovenia and Head of Field Office in Indonesia. During these missions, she was in charge of various assistance projects for asylum-seekers, refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in emergency operations, such as those associated with the Tsunami of 2004, as well as post-conflict/post-disaster reconstruction programmes. She also worked for JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) as Associate Expert, managing development and peacebuilding programmes.
