Alexis Bonnel

Deputy to the Director of Sector Operations
AFD


Alexis Bonnel, graduate from the Polytechnique engineering school in France, started his career in the USA working on migratory issues with Mexico, before joining the World Bank as a financial analyst. He later worked with the French Development Agency (AFD) in Paris, where he headed for several years the Infrastructure and Environment Division. He is now deputy to the Director of Sector Operations of AFD. His field experience covers all continents and developing regions, where he has managed development aid programs in a variety of areas including energy, transport, water and sanitation, telecommunications, climate change, forestry and biodiversity.

He teaches in a number of Universities and regularly publishes articles on how to reconcile economic development and the environmental agenda. He is co-author of a recent book on the need to revisit development aid (Notre maison brûle au Sud, Éditions Fayard, 03/2010).
