Runa Khan was educated in Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. In 1982 she started to teach children with learning disability. Finding positive results with her teaching methods, she expanded her program to a methodology and was assigned by University Press, to publish educational books for children, on Geography and History. Presently her books are amongst the best sold English children’s books in the country. In 1992 she joined the family business of printing and publication (the oldest printing House of Bangladesh, Eden Press) in charge of Management and Administration. In 1995 she was on the board of teachers assigned by UNICEF to teach Governmental School Teachers, in rural Bangladesh. In 1995, she founded TRL (Technologies and Realtors Limited), a Security cum Service Company and was the only woman in Bangladesh managing 140 guards including ex-army officers. Since 2002 , Runa Khan is the Executive Director of the NGO, “Friendship” which is involved in development programs to fight extreme poverty in the country. She has received many awards for her achievements, including Runner Up – National Award for Educational Books (1990), the “Ashoka Fellowship” for innovative teaching methodology (1994), Women Entrepreneurship Award by Arthokonto (2003), Rolex Awards for Entrepreneurship (2006), Media Award Bangladesh, for contribution to Development (2007) and the IDB award for contribution to Women in development in 2008.
