Focal areas
The rise in interdependencies and the growing seriousness of environmental problems have made the global governance of sustainable development an international priority. The number of bodies and agreements has multiplied in certain fields, but no coherent system has been developed to guarantee the efficiency required by the urgency of these problems. This is especially true given the fact that the number of actors participating in global regulation has also escalated, particularly companies that can produce global public goods.
While the risks of climate change are of growing concern to decision-makers and civil society and are the subject of scientific research and vigorous negotiations, the international community is far less active when it comes to renewable natural resources.
IDDRI therefore explores the issues raised by the international regulation of public goods and major negotiations on sustainable development. Given its limited means, it defines its priorities according to certain criteria, such as the nature of the issues raised, the positions of French stakeholders and the skills available, in both quantitative and qualitative terms, within IDDRI and among its partners. In line with the original outlook, research is grouped according to five focal areas, which include different programs.
