Oceans and coasts are an exceptional source of biodiversity, that is currently under increasing threat from the intensity and diversity of human pressures. On earth and at sea, on global and local scales, the solutions provides by the international community are inadequate to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources. In order to contribute to debates and to help defining prospects for a new governance of marine and coastal areas, IDDRI has more specifically focused on three issues:
- the governance of high seas biodiversity
- the integrated coastal management in the Mediterranean
- the sustainable management of fishery resources
