Sustainable management of fishery resources

According to FAO, 75% of fish stocks are currently fully exploited or overexploited. Such a resource scarcity added to the difficulties encountered by fishery professionals lead to rethink out fishery management on national, European and global scales. Although this observation is commonly shared - by professionals and among scientific and political communities - the methods for implementing a sustainable management of these resources are the subjects of numerous debates. Establishing a constructive dialogue between fishery stakeholders, scientists, decision-making authorities and non-governmental organisations appears increasingly necessary.

Following the conference organised in Junuary 2008 on Philippe Cury works, IDDRI is continuing to fuel the debate with new discussions on the sustainable management of fishery resources.
