Negotiations on the Plastics Treaty

"A new round of negotiations opens this Tuesday 23 April in Ottawa between 193 UN member states to put an end to plastic pollution. A group of European and African countries will be trying to overcome the reluctance of Russia and Iran and to shake the passivity of the United States.
According to Lucien Chabason of IDDRI, "there has been no real confrontation between the various parties; so far, each has contributed its point of view. There are still a whole series of legal and technical issues on the table, including the adoption of criteria for identifying problematic polymers and chemical additives, the definition of parameters for circularity, the examination of reuse targets and trade issues...".
