IDDRI is a leading think tank that aims to strengthen international cooperation for a sustainable and prosperous future within planetary boundaries. Established over 20 years ago, our 50 staff members work with a large network of partners around the world.
The Ocean Team strives to promote the conservation and sustainable use of the marine environment and its resources through a range of projects at the science-to-policy interface, including:

  • High seas conservation: With the entry into force of a new international treaty, we are now working on its operationalization and implementation, with a particular focus on the establishment and future management of marine protected areas (MPAs).
  • Blue tourism: Working closely with regional partners and the private sector, we aim to promote a sustainable future for one of the largest and most globalized industries.
  • Regional ocean governance: We support the development of regional ocean governance frameworks and work closely with stakeholders in different marine regions, including in the Mediterranean, Western Africa and the Western Indian Ocean.
