Matthieu Wemaëre is a lawyer registered in Paris and Brussels, and Associate Researcher at IDDRI since 2017. He has 25 years of experience including 6 years as a lawyer in the European Commission's DG Environment.

Former partner and Director of the Brussels office of Huglo Lepage et Associés Conseil, environmental law lawyers, he practices a wide range of consulting activities on behalf of both institutional and private clients, as well as international and regional organisations. His original background as a lawyer has allowed him to acquire a strong and recognized expertise on policies and measures to combat climate change, the protection of biodiversity and natural environments and for sustainable development. 

Since 2012, Matthieu Wemaëre has been an Associate Researcher at CERIC (Centre d' Etudes et de Recherches Internationales et Communautaires), based at the Faculty of Law in Aix en Provence, where he has been teaching international and European environmental and climate law since 2007. He was also Associate Researcher and permanent representative in Brussels of the IDDRI (Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations) between 2007 and 2012.
