Ten years after COP21, in an always more divided world, acting for the common good and in particular for environmental and social sustainability seems to be even more complicated than when the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals have been negotiated. Collective action for the common good seems to be impeded by a focus on individual economic interest in an always more brutal race for competitiveness, and on power to maximise individual benefits, both within and between nations.

Faced by such a political reality already in the 1980s, and searching for coherence with the scientifically grounded imperative to preserve the ecological viability of our development pathways, Claude Henry has developed along his long career as an economist a very active and strategic approach of economics in the field of public policy, innovation, and the environment.

This conference aims at taking stock of the influence that Claude Henry has had in these different fields of economics as a scientific discipline, as well as of economics as a practice and a strategic commitment to transform the world, for more justice and more environmental sustainability. It intends to draw main lessons and major perspectives for research and for action in a period when Claude Henry’s experience and teachings seem always  more relevant.

This conference will bring together a diverse group of participants—scientists, politicians, activists, and economists—who share the common experience of having been influenced by his intellectual legacy or of having contributed, in various ways, to the work and momentum he initiated.

With the participation of:
