Summary:

Even as the climate goals set by the COP21 in Paris towards the end of 2015 are beginning to be translated into action, this volume brings together contributions from two days of workshops and a conference on climate and energy issues in France, Germany and Europe. This publication proposes, as a first step, to reposition the current French and German energy transition strategies in the context of the policies of previous decades. The analysis then focuses on significant examples of Franco-German co-operation at a variety of decision-making levels, before moving on to studying the structural transformations in the electricity market. A fifth section is dedicated to environmental issues, and the impacts of COP21 for Europe in particular. Finally, an examination of the energy strategies of the United-Kingdom, Sweden and Poland is used to illustrate the long road that lies ahead before a coherent European energy policy can see the light of day.
