As the Climate Paris Agreement marks its 10th anniversary this year, and with COP30 in Belém, Brazil, just weeks away, the world faces both renewed resistance to environmental policies and the momentum built in 2015 at the Paris COP.

This conference will explore the risks of climate commitments being challenged and of growing international fragmentation, while also highlighting the many opportunities and levers that remain to drive global action forward. In a turbulent geopolitical context, it will offer a space to assess the progress achieved, the urgency that persists, and the collective dynamics needed to stay on course.

The discussion will also consider the role of individual action and the essential contribution of civil society, at a time when science itself is increasingly questioned.

To discuss these issues, three personalities will come together and engage with the audience in a debate entitled "Can we be happy without CO₂?":

  • Valérie Masson-Delmotte, paleoclimatologist, former vice-chair of the IPCC, research director at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA)
  • Lola Vallejo, Director of the Diplomacy Programme at the European Climate Foundation
  • Marine Lamoureux, Senior Reporter, La Croix l'hebdo
  • Moderated by: Jean-Christophe Ploquin, Editor-in-Chief, La Croix

On this occasion, IDDRI and La Croix, with the support of RFI, will launch their 8-episode documentary podcast series on the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, to be released on 23 October.

Through the voices of political and economic leaders, experts, activists and practitioners, the series takes a critical look at both progress and persistent challenges, while exploring ideas to make the coming decade one of profound transformation. Conference participants will have exclusive preview access to the first four episodes.
