Objectives

  • Conducting research on carbon-constraint issues for industries participating in the project, by examining not just the potential for internal decarbonization within each industry but also exploring potential shifts in the demand for materials used in the manufacturing process

  • Developing a hybrid modelling platform based on the sectoral POLES model and the macroeconomy-energy Imaclim-R model, in order to coherently quantify decarbonization issues for various industrial sectors by taking into account technical constraints, barriers to penetration of new technologies, and general equilibrium effects

  • Produce a series of forward-looking scenarios by 2050 based on different assumptions regarding the driving forces for carbon emissions – notably varying development styles

  • Establishing an ongoing dialogue between researchers and industry stakeholders regarding the results of these scenarios in order to improve on them on one hand, and facilitate their understanding and uptake by industrial partners on the other
