IDDRI organizes a side event at the UNFCCC COP-13 in Bali on adressing the "national cirucumstances" in reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD).

Although the international debate on REDD has experienced significant progress over the past years, several controversies remain. A key challenge refers to feasibility to effectively accomodate the diversity of local situations regarding forests (low/high deforestation) and forest policies (sustainable forest management, conservation, afforestation/reforestation) in one international REDD regime. How ca the challenge of effectively accomodating the differing "national circumstances" be addressed until 2012 and beyond? What are necessary conditions and requirements at local and international level? To identify potential avenues towards a loccaly sensitive, international REDD regime, IDDRI organizes a panel with key negotiators and experts.

Laurence Tubiana will moderate the debate.
