The Initiative for Development and Global Governance (IDGM), supported by the French Development Agency (AFD) and reinforced by the IDGM+ project under the "Laboratoire d'excellence" label, is at the heart of IDDRI's activities.

This initiative gives rise to conferences aimed at bringing together the scientific and political actors of these networks of expertise in order to advance, more concretely, the debates on the issues of financing sustainable development. Associated since 2008 with FERDI (Foundation for Studies and Research on International Development) within IDGM, IDDRI operates at the interface of the leading networks and experts on development economics and sustainable development.

This initiative, which has included CERDI (Centre for Study and Research on International Development) since 2011 in IDGM+, was awarded the Laboratoire d’Excellence (Laboratory of Excellence) label, confirmed in 2015 by an international assessment that stressed that the three institutions are a reference in France for their ability to use scientific research excellence with the goal of informing international policy debates.

In 2020, the IDGM is organising a series of events on how to finance the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development in a context marked by the strong socio-economic impacts of the crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic. This cycle takes place in May and June in the form of a series of webinars.

2020 webinar series "Financing Agenda 2030 in a vulnerable world"

This series of webinars is an opportunity to analyse the financing modalities for projects that are truly aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to define public policies that fully integrate the ambition of the 2030 Agenda. It also addresses the issue of adequate mobilisation of budgetary resources and the efficiency of public spending. The implementation of the SDGs implies budgetary and fiscal policies that make it possible to finance the necessary surplus of public expenditure and to guide the behaviour of economic agents in this direction. Finally, it asks how to differentiate the responses to be provided according to the specific challenges of each country, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable, starting with the least developed countries.
