IDDRI, under the framework of the Blue Tourisme Initiative, co-organised a side-event on Blue Economy at the COP23 of the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols.

The event was hold at the Hotel Grand Bernardin, Room Mediteranea, in Portorož (Slovenia) on December 6th, 2023 from 1pm to 3pm. 

The side event provided space for exchange and dialogue on the tools and initiatives to promote a sustainable blue economy in the Mediterranean region. It brought different perspectives to promote a sustainable blue economy in the Mediterranean. Lead partners of the Blue Tourism Initiative, IDDRI, and eco-union, took center stage presenting the project and offering insights into the current state and future evolution of blue tourism, sharing some highlights from the report "Towards Sustainable Blue Tourism: trends, challenges, and policy pathways".

The event featured an interactive space with speed presentations and roundtable discussions.  It also counted on the special contributions of Mitja Bricelj, Slovenian Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) Focal Point, Slovenian Ministry for Natural Resources and Spatial Planning, and Anne-France Didier, Chairwoman of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD), French Ministry of the Sea.
