Background and issues
The Partnership for Regional Ocean Governance (PROG) was founded in 2015 to support integrated ocean governance approaches for marine regions. In 2017, Germany and the European Union announced at the UN Ocean Conference in New York and the Our Ocean Conference in Malta that they will support the establishment of a cross-sectoral transboundary multi-stakeholder platform for regional ocean governance under the PROG. The first of these Marine Regions Forums will be held in 2019.
Objectives
The project aims to establish the Marine Regions Forums as a participatory, multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral dialogue forum to support integrated ocean governance for marine regions. The objective of the project is to ensure the conceptual design, implementation and evaluation of a first Marine Regions Forum as a dialogue-oriented international event bringing together ocean governance experts from a range of institutions and disciplines, and to establish the Marine Regions Forums as a fixture in the global ocean governance landscape.
