2020 Biodiversity Platform

SEE THE CONFERENCE'S SLIDES

The COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), originally scheduled to take place in October 2020 in Kunming, China, is postponed. Nevertheless, the adoption of a new global framework for biodiversity governance after 2020 is still at the heart of the negotiations. This process is already under way and the agenda for discussions up to Kunming is already busy and complex.

In order to make it easier for French stakeholders to follow this process and to improve collective understanding of the main issues at stake, and if possible to facilitate their involvement in the preparation of COP15, IDDRI and the OFB will co-organise, on a regular basis until the end of 2020, an event to offer moments of analysis and ownership of international biodiversity-related news. These regular meetings bring together a wide variety of French stakeholders (the administration and its agencies, local authorities, research, NGOs, companies, journalists, political parties). This series of events, and the actors who will take part in them, form the "2020 Biodiversity Platform".

The first session of the platform took place on June, 27, 2019, in Paris Sciences Po; second session on September 20, 2019, in OFB headquarters; and third session on January 17, 2020, in Paris Sciences Po.

Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the fourth session took place as webinar, on March 19, 2020. Speakers provided analysis on latest biodiversity negotiations sessions which took place on Rome, February 24-29, and gave an overview of the possible next steps.
