Conference debate taking place at Sciences Po on Friday 30 May, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Abstract:
During the coming decades the world will go thru a transition to a low carbon economy. Much of the fossil dependent technologies and behaviors that we are using today will be replaced by new and smarter solutions.
The challenge of achieving a global sustainable development is usually discussed from a perspective of all problems that the planet is facing, rather than from the possibilities and opportunities that arise.
Sustainability challenge has to be seen as a source of inspiration rather than problems. In the perspective, the objective is trying to empower the winners in the sustainability transition and see how they are able to change the systems and structures that are responsible for the unsustainable development we are experiencing today.
This lecture will focus on sustainable development not from an academic perspective but more like a report from reality. What is sustainable development in reality and how can we in Europe make sure that what we do have a global importance? What’s the role of China and India, and how does this relate to what is being done in USA and Europe? And what is your role in the transformation to a low carbon economy?
