Position paper on the EU “Farm to Fork” Strategy submitted to the European Commission on 16 March 2020 by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), Ecologic Institute, the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI).

To reverse current trends and put European food systems on track towards greater sustainability, the Farm to fork strategy needs to simultaneously to:

  • Transform the governance of the EU food system / food-related policies;
  • Take ambitious measures to ensure the needed changes on all five dimensions (diet shift, food waste and losses reduction, food value chain transformation, agricultural landscape transformation, trade & competition policies) are triggered and will happen at sufficient scale and pace.
